Termination of the contract during the first 6 months: the notice period is reduced to 1 week

The Act applies to employment contracts whose performance begins on or after August 1st, 2026.

1. Current rules

The notice period for employees with less than six months of service varies:

  • between one and five weeks, if notice is given by the employer;
  • between one and two weeks, if the notice is given by the employee.

2. New system introduced by the Act of June 3rd, 2026

The Act of June 3, 2026, reduces the notice period when notice is given by the employer or the employee during the first six months of the employment relationship.

From now on, when either party to the employment relationship terminates the employment contract during the first six months, the notice period is reduced to one week.

3. Entry into force of the Act of June 3rd, 2026

This legislative amendment takes effect on August 1st, 2026.

The new notice period will apply only to employment contracts that, as agreed between the employer and the employee, take effect on or after August 1st, 2026.

Takeaway

For employment contracts beginning on or after August 1st, 2026, the notice period is set at one week when the contract is terminated by the employer or the employee during the first six months of employment.
